With effect from February 15, 2024, the Canadian government has changed the requirements for international students applying to the post-graduation work programme (PGWP).
As long as they fulfil all other requirements, students who finish their master’s degree programme in less than two years are qualified for a three-year PGWP under the current rules.
Canada declared on its website that international students participating in the curriculum licencing agreement scheme will no longer be eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Programme (PGWP) as of September 1, 2024.
Furthermore, the Post-Graduation Work Programme (PGWP) and particular measures for distant study will remain in place.

After completing their studies, international students can work anywhere in Canada for any business, with no restrictions on their working hours, thanks to the Post-Graduation Work Programme (PGWP). This programme grants international students an open work permit.
The length of a foreign student’s PGWP is determined by the length and intensity of their coursework as well as the date on which their passport expires, whichever comes first.
A foreign student must have completed their studies at a designated learning institution (DLI) and be willing to work temporarily in Canada in order to be eligible for a PGWP.
