A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, September 27, 2021 rejected a notice filed by the police to discountenance a suit filed against a former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, by an Abuja-based woman, Ms Chinyere Amuchienwa, stating that the move to discontinue the matter lacked merit.
The Court also ruled that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who had informed the court that he had taken over the prosecution, had unfettered power to do so.
The police had initially filed criminal charges against Ohakim over the alleged threat to the life of an Abuja-based woman, Ms Chinyere Amuchienwa.
According to the charge, Ohakim and one Mr Chinedu Okpareke were alleged to have threatened to release a nude photograph of Amuchienwa, if she failed to drop the charges of attempted kidnap against them.
“All lovers of freedom including Christian communities in the North and other parts of Nigeria, who receive humiliation, intimidation, and killings from Fulani terrorists, bandits, and murderous herdsmen should understand that time has come for all victims of Fulani impunity and atrocities to unite together for resistance.
“We need to put our differences behind us and rise like one people to defend our ancestral land and heritage against our common enemy.
“Our objective is to deliver all indigenous nationalities, so everybody must reject Nigeria with their impunity if we want to be free from Fulani subjugation. Nigeria is not worth celebrating and our children must be saved from the evil that is Nigeria. Our freedom is due and ready for us to take it.”
