Abubakar El-Kanemi, Shehu of Borno, has disclosed that foreign nationals are responsible for the Boko Haram insurgency that has wracked the country’s North Eastern region for years.
The traditional leader revealed this at a town hall gathering held by the Yateem Faqeer Global Foundation on Thursday in Abuja. He claimed that foreigners infiltrated terrorism in the Northeast region on the pretence of seeking to study the Quran.

Borno has seen a lot of things, both good and horrible, he claims. Boko Haram is a useless, senseless, and aimless organisation since neither the Bible nor the Quran contain passages that encourage disregard for others or the burning and destruction of their possessions. And I want people to know that no one from the North-East Zone ever created or launched Boko Haram. They just presented it to us out of the blue.
“Boko Haram insurgents came to Borno and the North-East in the guise of acquiring Quranic education while not many did not know they had an ideology which was polluted as well as promoted into the minds of the youths, and created havoc in our area.”
