Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna senator, has urged the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to install sensors across the country to detect explosives planted on rail tracks.
Sani made the call after the NRC suspended operations following a bandit attack on an Abuja-bound train.
Bandits detonated explosives on the tracks serving the Abuja-Kaduna line on Wednesday, according to InsightnaijaTV.
Sani also revealed on Thursday that his train narrowly avoided derailment after passing through a section of rail tracks that had been damaged by the bandits.
Shehu Sani responded to the suspension of operations with a tweet: “The suspension of the railway services by the NRC is the safest thing to do for now.
“The next is to install the sensors to detect any explosive planted along the rail tracks.
“Flying to Kaduna is the next option while hoping that the road from the airport to the city will be secured.”
