Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, says that the 2023 general elections will go ahead as planned and would be the finest ever.
The INEC chairman, who offered the guarantee at a meeting with vice-chancellors of Federal institutions, instructed the vice-chancellors to do a complete background check before providing their names to the commission for help in the elections.

The Commission also stated that it will conduct its own examination into names submitted by institutions for the purpose of the election.
Professor Yakubu assuaged certain vice-chancellors’ concerns about security by guaranteeing that extensive security arrangements have been developed for the protection of all personnel, journalists, youth corps members, and everyone who votes.
According to him, the number of registered voters for the 2023 elections (about 93 million) is greater than the number of registered voters in Africa.
