Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has ordered that no police officers demand drivers’ Customs paperwork or tinted glass permits.
According to InsightnaijaTV, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Acting Force Public Relations Officer, announced this in a statement on Sunday.
He warned that any police officer who demands Customs paperwork will be harshly reprimanded, and that tinted glass permits are still being issued across the country.
According to Adejobi, police officers can only stop any car with tinted windows, search the vehicle and its occupants, and then release the vehicle after a thorough inspection.
Adejobi said, “No policeman should demand your customs papers. Except they are on joint operation, but not just on mere routine checks.
“We have suspended the issuance of tinted glass permits, so we don’t expect our men to disturb Nigerians on this.
“We are to stop any vehicle with tints, search the vehicles, and its occupants, but not to delay for not having tinted glass permits.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has described the destruction of police structures and assets in Imo State, as well as the residence of Professor George Obiozor, the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as “deeply distressing.”
Unknown gunmen burned down the mansion of the former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States in Awo-Omanma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state, according to Naija News.
Buhari strongly condemned the violence in the subregion in a statement sent by his Media Assistant, Garba Shehu, on Sunday.
He asked everyone to keep the peace, noting that the Southeast’s law and order capacities are being enhanced.
