After a long stay in the Benin Republic, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, an activist for the Yoruba Nation, claims he would soon return to Nigeria.
Igboho fled Nigeria to avoid being apprehended by the country’s secret police, the Department of State Services, and was captured last year along with his wife in Cotonou, Benin Republic on July 19 by security personnel in the West African nation (DSS).
Igboho was listed as sought by the DSS after its agents conducted a brutal raid on his home in the Soka neighborhood of Ibadan, Oyo State, during which two people were killed and 12 aides were taken into custody, but Igboho fled.
Igboho’s wife was freed from police custody, but he was detained first before being let go.

Igboho’s wife was freed from police custody, but he was detained first before being let go.
“I am going back to Nigeria soon,” he said in the interview.
Igboho was awarded relief by an Oyo State High Court in September 2021, and the Nigerian government was mandated to pay him N20 billion.
“I am going back to Nigeria soon.” He added, “I believe in the judiciary.”
Igboho lamented his personal losses, including the brand-new cars that had been shot at by security personnel who had stormed his home in Ibadan.
He said that the security officers who barged into his home wrecked a Mercedes Benz worth N55 million, three Hilux at N17 million each, a G-Wagon for N48 million, among other things.
Igboho recalled the horrific midnight raid on his home and claimed that while the secret police and other security personnel who stormed his home had intended to kill him, “God doesn’t leave his own,” they were instead stopped by God.
Igboho added, “My wife (Ropo) was detained at the (Cadjèhoun) Airport for about two hours. They were ready to hold onto her if I didn’t show up. Then I showed up and the security agents handcuffed my hands and legs. If I knew that could happen, I wouldn’t allow her to follow me to the airport. She had already obtained my travelling document from the German government and I would have asked her to go separately but God knew how everything went that way.”
Igboho immediately shied away from further questions when asked how he survived the DSS raid. “The time to speak has not yet come. When my turn comes to speak, I will.
