Insisting that the election on February 25th was legitimate, Senator Smart Adeyemi (Kogi West) urged opposition leaders who were disappointed with the results of the 2023 presidential election to hold off until the 2027 elections.
Recall that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was proclaimed the election’s victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged the results of the election and petitioned the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to overturn them.

Adeyemi said that, despite flaws, the 2023 election was one of the most free in the country’s history on Thursday’s Politics Today on Channels Television. He cited Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima are the most trusted figures to lead the Country for now. Adeyemi also emphasised that because the former governor of Lagos State had invested in people and developed strong ties throughout Nigeria, his victory at the polls was not unexpected.
The politician insisted that the poll was free but acknowledged that certain people would never agree with the results of an election.
Adeyemi declared: “I speak my mind at any point in time. And let me tell you the truth. I hold the view that this election was free to a large extent and better than the previous election. Those who feel bitter can just wait for the next election.”
“The fact of the matter is that Asiwaju and Shettima are the popular contestants, and they won.”
