Prof. Christopher Imumolen, the presidential candidate of the Accord Party, has stated that he intends to combat insecurity in Nigeria by focusing on an effective border control system.
He stated that with multiple unsecured routes via which illegal aliens enter Nigeria, tight border patrol and access control are required.
According to a statement released by his presidential campaign organisation, Imumolen stated during a meeting with Accord Party chieftains in Abuja that his administration will secure Nigeria’s borders in order to halt the rising tide of instability in the country.
According to him, more attention will be paid to the issue of adequate border manning in order to prevent the influx of undesirable individuals into the country.
“Nigeria is experiencing its most difficult period because of a porous border system that continues to allow the illegal movement of equipment, drugs, contraband, guns, and people with questionable intents into the country.”
“As a result, the country is reeling from the aftereffects of such irresponsibility, with an unsettling surge in unjustified killings, kidnappings, and other vices.”
“However, a nation that is serious about achieving and enjoying lasting peace must not allow the current scenario to persist, as it has the potential to derail both the goal of economic progress and our stability as a sovereign country.”
“The way forward will thus be for us to take a comprehensive look at the current border system in order to make the required improvements.”
“First, we’d have to look at the approximately 1400 unsecured, unmanned illicit channels that expose us as a country.”
