Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has denied reacting to the invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that has been circulating on various media platforms.
According to reports, the ex-governor requested that the EFCC make its findings public after the commission investigated him for alleged tax evasion and other unethical behavior.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman and other senior politicians and business executives were accused of sheltering their assets in a known tax haven in the Pandora Papers a few weeks ago.
Obi, however, said in a statement signed by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem, that he had not yet received the EFCC letter.
According to the ex-governor, he read the story on social media after being invited by the anti-graft agency.
The statement read: “From what is circulating, the letter appears to have been sent to an office he is no longer part of and is yet to reach him.
“Obi being a law-abiding Nigerian will honour all legitimate invitations from government agencies at all times.”
