Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic preacher, has stated that he is unaware of the circumstances surrounding his assistant Tukur Mamu’s detention in Cairo, Egypt.
On Wednesday morning, rumours that Mr. Mamu had been detained in the nation of northern Africa while travelling to Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj flooded the media.
“I just learned that he and his family were detained in Cairo. I am not aware of why that would happen as the Nigerian government did not prosecute him for anything or declare him wanted at any point. However, I’ve also heard that he’s returning to Nigeria, so I’m hoping to learn more when he gets there later today.
According to numerous sites, Mr. Mamu was held for 24 hours at the Cairo International Airport before being returned to Nigeria.
