Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has stated that he was a victim of police brutality in 2014 when he was seeking re-election for his second term.
Fayemi stated this in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, during an interactive session with youths in the state on the #EndSARS protest.
The governor noted that he was teargassed by a team of Police officers at Mugbagba area of Ado Ekiti, during the buildup of the Ekiti State 2014 Governorship Election. He also noted that some APC governors who were supposed to come for his campaign were prevented from entering Ekiti.
“The EndSARS protest was a noble course. It was supported here in Ekiti not because of those involved, but for the reason behind the action, which we believe would help the police to do their job well.
“We must not resort to violence as a solution to our agitations. We must all speak in unison against violence as we did in unison against Police brutality,” he said.
