Mr. Abejide Ojo, a commercial motorcyclist, was shot and killed by assailants on the Ilemeso-Isan-Ekiti road in Ekiti on Thursday.
According to a witness who knew the victim’s identify and spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the victim was 35 years old.
The witness described how Ojo transported a passenger from Isan, Ekiti, to Ilemeso, Ekiti, and on the way back, met some gunmen who asked him to transport them to a forest.
According to reports, he refused their offer, which caused the gunmen to drag his motorcycle along with them. He later managed to flee the scene before being pursued and shot many times.
According to the eyewitness, the victim was able to carry his gunshot wounds to Isan Ekiti, where he told the locals what had happened between him and the assailants.
Before he passed away, some locals claimed to have seen him wearing bloodied clothing.
DSP Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ekiti Command, responded to the news by promising to brief journalists as soon as he receives complete information.
