Mrs. Bola Abioye, the wife of Mrs. Bola Abioye, the general manager of the Imo State Zoological Garden and Wildlife Park, was taken hostage by gunmen who entered the First Baptist Church in Nekede, Imo State.
According to information obtained by InsightnaijaTV, the criminals who were dressed as police officers arrived at the church in a grey Toyota Sienna minivan.
When the church was about to end its Sunday service at 1:30 pm, the incident took place.
According to reports, the attackers shot randomly in an effort to frighten others.
An attendee named Dr. Blessing described the incident to the Daily Post, saying that the church had just finished its Thanksgiving celebration and that members were about to travel to the location in preparation for fun when gunmen opened fire.
He said, “The church had just dismissed so everyone was heading to the car park with the intention to go to the home of the member, only for an ash-coloured Sienna vehicle to drive in shooting sporadically.
“The abductors who wore police vests were shooting right there at the car park. They first dragged a woman but after some seconds, one of them shouted it’s not this one.
“Before they went to drag Mrs Abioye shooting directly to scare people away. Though she tried to resist, there was so much commotion. And within minutes, they drove off still shooting.”
InsightnaijaTV’s attempts to reach the Imo State Police Command’s spokesman, Michael Abattam, on his cell phone were fruitless because the line was disconnected.
Another text message sent to him went unanswered as well.
He already revealed to some journalists that the command had not yet received information about the incident.
