In Oyo State, suspected gunmen attacked one of the Nigeria Correctional Service’s (NCS) facilities.
The facility, known as the Abolongo correctional facility, was attacked by gunmen on Friday evening, InsightnaijaTV reports.
During the attack, the gunmen reportedly released all of the facility’s inmates.
According to a source, the attackers stormed the facility around 10 p.m. on Friday, October 22.
The attackers allegedly used grenades to gain access and free the prisoners.
On Saturday, Olanrewaju Anjorin, a spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in the state, confirmed the attack to reporters.
In a phone conversation Saturday morning, Anjorin said that the agency’s senior officers were on their way to assess the extent of the damage.
“Yes,” he replied. It has been established that the attack took place.
“At this time, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) comptroller and other top officers are assessing the situation.
“However, I can attest to the fact that the incident occurred.”
