Mason Greenwood scored a late winner as Manchester United narrowly beat Wolves 1-0 in an entertaining match at the Molineux on Sunday evening.
Wolves got off the blocks first and were excellent in the opening 20 minutes, but could not find the elusive goal with Adama Traore, in particular giving the Reds’ backline all sorts of problems.
Their first chance fell to Raul Jimenez who made a perfect run onto a loose pass inside the box and released a tremendous shot towards the right side of the goal, but David de Gea anticipated it and made a brilliant save.
The hosts were back again three minutes later, this time Trincao shooting wide from inside the box after his amazing individual effort beat De Gea, only for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to make a goal-line clearance.
A precise short pass from Jimenez then released Joao Moutinho in space inside the box, but he smashed a wild shot high over the bar.
Romain Saiss then missed a great chance on the half-hour mark after he found some space in the box, with his improvised effort going inches wide of the left post.
United had their first glimpse of goal just before the break when Mason Greenwood managed to take a shot from a tight angle, but it went inches off the right post even though replays showed the goalkeeper had a slight touch.
The match became an end-to-end contest in the second period, even though the hosts carved out the better chances.
David de Gea, in particular, stood out, making save after save as he kept out the likes of Trincao and Saiss on three occasions.
With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Greenwood found the back of the net with a beautiful finish from inside the box and into the bottom left corner.
The goal was however subjected to a VAR review for a possible infringement in the build-up, but it was allowed to stand.
Both sides had a number of chances late on as the game turned physical, but it was Ole Gunnar’s side who held on for maximum points.
The win took them to seven points, level with four other teams, two points off leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
The win also saw United set a new Premier League record of most away games without defeat, 28, going one above Arsenal, 27.
