Government at all levels have been charged to invest heavily and take comparative advantages in Coconut Production with sincerity of purpose in order to increase revenue of Government.
Those were the exact words of Former Sole Administrator of Badagry West Local Council Development Area, Mr. Nuatin Genesis, on this year’s World Coconot day held in Badagry.
Mr. Genesis said that Government need to invest in coconut production by investing in it by way of empowering coconut farmers in Badagry.
The former Sole Administrator stressed that no part of coconut tree is a waste product as many things can be derived from it, from Rafia tree to the fruits.
In a speech, the Chairman Of Badagry Local Government, Mr. Segun Onilude, who was ably represented by the Council Vice-Chairman, Mr. Andre Akotome, urged every individual to plant five coconut trees in replacement of every one fell in order to explore the economic gains and values of coconut tree’s from the raffia to the root.
Mr. Akotome noted that the Local Government is in tandem with realities been projected by organizers of Agunkefest.
He however promised that the Council premises will withnes a new look before next year’s World coconut day as the Council will be flooded with coconut trees.
Speaking at the event, the President of Africa Coconut Heritage Initiative, Prince Doheto Messi, said that the State Government led by his Excellency Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is passionate about tapping into economic advantages of coconut production hence he had keyed into the promotion and leverage of coconut production in order to increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the State, while promising to support every initiative of the Africa Coconut Initiative led by Prince Doheto Mesi.
Prince Mesi, disclosed that the world coconut day is to create awareness about the value chain of coconut throughout the world which also aimed at creating awareness and multiple utilisation of the coconut and its gains economically.
He stressed that every September 2nd is important to all Countries especially Asian Pacific Countries as their economy are driven through exportation of coconut.
