The Governing Council of the University of Lagos, on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 announced the removal of the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.
The Council took the decision at its meeting, which was chaired by the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of its Governing Council, Dr Wale Babalakin, at the National Universities Commission in Abuja, the Nation’s capital.
According to reports, seven members of the Council voted for the sack of Ogundipe, four members voted against it while one of them voted for the suspension of the VC.
The Council Chair has said that he would announce an Acting Vice-Chancellor by 5pm on Wednesday.
Ogundipe’s sack came months after the institution’s 51st convocation ceremony was postponed over the rift between UNILAG’s Governing Council and its administration.
Meanwhile, the Embattled Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe says he still remains the authentic Vice Chancellor of the university.
Professor Ogundipe in a statement he personally signed said it is untrue that the Governing Council of the University sack him.
He therefore urged stakeholders of Unilag and the general public to disregard this mischievous disinformation.
