Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, has urged men to help their wives in achieving their God-given goals in all areas of life.
Banigo made the request in a goodwill message to mark International Women’s Day this year.
Banigo also took the opportunity to praise the state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for providing all the necessary assistance for women in the state to excel at all levels of government.
Wike, she said, feels that women are qualified for all positions held by males and can make their best efforts to the state’s and nation’s growth.
She claimed the governor selected two female Chief Judges in the state and chose a female as his deputy for two terms.
Wike also chose a female President of the Customary Court of Appeal and backed women as vice chairpersons of the state’s 23 local government units, according to Banigo.
Wike has named a number of women to positions in his cabinet, including cabinet commissioners, permanent secretaries, and heads of departments, parastatals, and agencies.
Wike was also praised by the deputy governor for speaking out against the All Progressive Congress-led Federal Government’s alleged gender inequality posture, saying it was unfortunate that five gender bills that would have given women better political opportunities were scuttled by the APC-controlled National Assembly.
Every year on March 8th, International Women’s Day honors women’s achievements in the fields of socioeconomics, politics, and culture.
“Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” is the topic for this year’s commemoration.
Banigo urged everyone of good will to speak out against gender abuse, prejudice, and stereotyping in order to help women achieve their goals.
