Two leaders of “fix Lagos-Badagry expressway” were arrested for protesting despite prior warnings from the Lagos State Commissioner of police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, not to hold any protest or gathering of any kind.
The two individuals, Mr. Mark Akande and Mr. Kazeem Adegunro, who led concerned youths to stage a peaceful protest on the deplorable state of Badagry expressway to mark the sixtieth Independence anniversary of Nigeria in Badagry.
The protesters before the arrest of their leaders had converged at Mowo bus stop with different placards, such as, President Muhammadu Bihari, please save us by fixing our road, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, save our souls by fixing our road.
Those who spoke with our correspondent, Temitope Ajayi, said that the protesters meant well but the timing is very wrong with the present security situation in the Country, while urging Lagos State Government to tender justice with mercy.
Meanwhile, the member representing Badagry Federal Constituency at the green chamber, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, who had earlier appealed to the leaders of the group to shelve the scheduled protest, as the time is wrong.
Mr. Hunpe, noted that the contractor handling the project had been mobilized back to site, hence there is no need for the protest.
It was gathered from a reliable source that the Badagry Divisional Police officer had earlier advised the protesters to abort the protest but went ahead against the directives of the State Government.
