Senator Shehu Sani, a former member of the National Assembly, has named five candidates who may succeed President Muhammadu Buhari if the effort to impeach him is successful.
InsightnaijaTV recalls that on Wednesday of last week, some senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) left the plenary session.
After Senate President Ahmad Lawan rejected a motion on security, it was reported that more than ten senators fled the red chamber in the middle of the debate.
Sen. Philip Aduda, the minority leader in the Senate, had brought up the motion that had been approved after a lengthy, behind-closed-doors discussion in a Point of Order.
Aduda asserts that the Senate was intended to examine issues related to national security and the steps already taken to address the threat.
He also reminded his colleagues that they were supposed to give the president a deadline to address the security concerns and a notice of impeachment if that deadline was not reached.
As far as InsightnaijaTV is aware, the opposition party members’ attempt to impeach the president has drawn a range of responses from influential political figures and ordinary residents, many of whom have characterized the effort as doomed from the start.
Sen. Sani, who represented Kaduna North Central in the eighth national assembly, stated on his verified Twitter profile on Tuesday (today) that if President Buhari were to be removed from office, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would take over as leader of Nigeria.
In case the other is also impeached, Lawan and his deputy, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, will take over, according to Sani.
The former legislator continued by stating that if the other candidates were also impeached, Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the House of Representatives, and Ahmed Idris Wase, his deputy, are alternative options.
Sani’s tweet reads: “If you impeach Buhari, you will have Osibanjo and if you impeach the two, then Ahmed Lawan. If you add Ahmed Lawan in the impeachment, then it will be Omo Agege.”
“Ahead is Gbaja and the Wase,” said Sani when questioned by a netizen about the next option after Osinbajo, Lawan and Omo-Agege.
