Liverpool defeated Inter Milan 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday, thanks to late goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
Inter had the better chances in the first half, with Hakan Calhanoglu firing against the crossbar after being given too much time in the penalty area.
Liverpool were struggling to create many chances in the second half, with coach Jurgen Klopp making substitutions, and one of those subs came up trumps – Firmino flicking home from a corner to break the deadlock in the 75th minute.
With their resistance broken, Inter began to make mistakes, and Salah pounced when they failed to clear a long ball into the box, putting the game to bed seven minutes from time.
The result puts the 2019 Champions League winners in a dominating position ahead of the return leg on March 8 at Anfield, even if the away goals rule is no longer in effect.
