FIFA have announced that nations competing at the 2022 World Cup will be allowed to name 26 players in their final squads for the tournament in Qatar.
Previously, countries competing at football’s most prestigious international tournament were allowed to select only 23 players in their squads.
However, due to the unusual timing of this year’s tournament and with concerns still present with regards to coronavirus, FIFA have confirmed that the number of squad members has been increased by three.
UEFA allowed 26-player squads for the European Championship last year, although only 23 players could be named for each game.
South American governing body CONMEBOL allowed teams in last year’s Copa America to name 28-player squads.
