Federal Government has directed the immediate suspension of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Wale Babalakin and the embattled Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe from performing official duties in the institution as well as sacking the Acting Vice – Chancellor purportedly appointed by the Babalakin-led Council.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the spokesman of the Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, stating that a panel chaired by former Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Tukur Sa’ad is expected to investigate the romote course of the crises.
The committee expected to be inaugurated by the Minister of Education on August 25, consist of Victor Onuoha, Ikenna Oyindo, Adamu Usman, Jimoh Bankole and Ekanem Braide as members is expected to submit its reports in two weeks.
The seven man committee is anticipated to review the report giving by the sub- committee on review of expenditure of the University and give recommendations on the way forward in restoring normalcy in the institution.
Earlier, the Governing Council of UNILAG had removed Ogundipe from office over alleged financial misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.
