Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode claims that if the All Progressives Congress, APC, wins the presidency in 2023, Kashim Shettima will be authorised by law to manage security.
When responding to Ifeanyi Okowa, the vice presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who said that Shettima’s handling of security if the APC wins in 2023 is unconstitutional, Fani-Kayode revealed this.
If the party wins in 2023, Shettima will not usurp the president’s authority, according to a series of tweets from Fani-Kayode.
Gov. Okowa, the PDP’s candidate for vice president, is aware that Sen. Shettima did not imply that he would usurp the constitutional duties of the incoming President and C-in-C when he stated that he, as vice president, would oversee security while Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as president, would concentrate on the economy.
He was saying that the President would appoint him to that position and that because of the extensive experience he has accrued dealing with Boko Haram while serving as Governor of Borno State, he is uniquely qualified to undertake such an assignment with bravery and courage.
It astounds me that Gov. Okowa, who I have always respected and who is normally a level-headed, smart, decent, restrained, and well-exposed man, would find this to be “unconstitutional” or ridiculous. When it comes to our system of governors, it is totally legal, legitimate, and customary.
