Former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, who jumped bail, has been arrested in Niger Republic.
Maina, according to a report by PR Nigeria, a news agency specializing in helping the Nigerian government disseminate information, was detained on Monday night, by the operatives of intelligence services in collaboration with officials of the anti-corruption agency in Nigeria in a town in the Niger Republic.
A top intelligence officer said that the arrest was made possible due to an existing mutual relationship and security agreement between the two neighbouring countries.
EFCC operatives had learnt of Maina’s escape to Niger about two weeks ago and had worked with that country’s security forces to effect his arrest.
Maina, along with his company, is facing a 12-count charge of money laundering, to the tune of N2 billion.
The fugitive jumped bail on 29th September 2020. His trial continued last week in absentia.
Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court at the trial last week remanded Senator Ali Ndume, Maina’s surety in prison. He was released on Friday.
