Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, a former governor of Kogi State, has indicated that he will run for the position of National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the party’s national convention on October 30th and 31st.
He announced his intention late Monday in Abuja at an extended meeting of party members from Kogi State and North Central, citing the PDP’s acute problem, which has resulted in the loss of many notable members.
He added in the gathering that the PDP should be repositioned to take power away from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which would be his emphasis if he were elected.
“Amid disaster and catastrophes perpetuated by the APC led Federal government, I will reposition PDP immediately to wrestle power from APC,” he said.
The former governor, known as Ibro, voiced alarm over the migration of PDP members, stating that as a long-time member of the party, he had spotted a leadership gap that he intended to bridge.
According to him, the PDP has experienced widespread grassroots support, making it the most popular political party in the West African sub-region; as a result, he plans to work hard to revitalize and reorient the party in order to help Nigeria emerge from its current leadership crisis in 2023.
Idris asserted that the PDP will take over federal governance in 2023, calling supporters and stakeholders to rally behind him.
