Deji Adeyanju, a public affairs pundit, has warned that freshly elected Senators and members of the House of Representatives have begun accepting payments in order to select their new leaders.
The 10th National Assembly will be inaugurated in June to begin another four years of legislative duty. The Senate will elect a new President to replace Ahmed Lawan, while the House of Assembly will elect a new Speaker to replace Femi Gbajabiamila.

There is currently debate about which geopolitical zones of the country should produce the two National Assembly leaders.
While some members of the minority are planning to outdo the ruling party, the majority party, the All Progressives Congress, has not yet made a statement regarding the zoning scheme.
Ranking lawmakers interested in the two positions are therefore already lobbying and enlisting the help of members to secure their seats, but Adeyanju expressed regret that money is being exchanged between the candidates and the electorate.
“They are all collecting dollars to vote Senate President and Speaker,” he stated. Very depressing country.
