Pupils in public primary schools in Ekiti state have been charged to study hard and inculcate good reading culture in order to achieve success in their education.
The Executive Chairman, Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) Prof Akinwumi Femi Sunday gave the charge during the monitoring of resumption of academic activities for the 2020/2021 academic session in public primary schools in Ekiti State.
Prof Akinwumi who visited eight schools in Irepodun-Ifelodun local government area during the exercise, taught pupils in Primary 5 at the Methodist Nursery/Primary school, Iyin with the topic:
“The use of Adjectives and Nouns”
He stressed that there was no shortcut to success, noting that pupils can only be great in life when they study hard.
The Subeb Chairman advised pupils to master the art of how to respond correctly to questions adding that they should always revise the lessons at home so that they are able to master the lessons received in class and acquire knowledge. While calling on primary school teachers to be more effective in discharge of their duties, the Subeb boss urged them to prepare ahead of their lessons in order to give their pupils the best. He assured the teachers that the board would give priority to the issue of training and re-training of teachers at all times.
The Chairman solicited for good relationship between teachers and pupils stating that teachers should treat pupils like their own children. At St. Micheal Nur/Pry school, also in Iyin-Ekiti, Prof Femi Akinwumi directed that chairs and desks of pupils in the second class at Nursery section be replaced to the modern type in order to make the class more attractive. He disclosed that the board recently procured over 10,000 units of plastic pupils furniture as part of efforts at providing a condusive teaching and learning environment in public schools in the state.
