After six days in detention, Willie Obiano, the immediate former governor of Anambra State, was reportedly released on administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the source, Obiano was released on Wednesday evening and his “passport seized as part of his bail conditions,” according to an official of the anti-graft agency who confirmed the event.
Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s spokesman, could not be reached for comment at the time of reporting this article.
According to InsightnaijaTV, Obiano was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday around 8:30 p.m. at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, while on his way to the United States of America, hours after he left office and handed over to the new Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo.
Obiano was then brought to the commission’s offices, where he was questioned for days about suspected mishandling of N5 billion in Sure-P funds, N37 billion in security votes that were removed in cash, and some inflated contracts.
