Omobayo Marvellous Godwins was named deputy governor by Governor Godwin Obaseki on Monday morning, following the impeachment of former deputy governor Philip Shaibu by the Edo State House of Assembly.
Omobayo has extensive experience as an engineer and has worked in the oil and gas industry for a considerable amount of time. Born in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the State, Omobayo was born on July 19, 1986.
Having completed his M.Sc. in Public Administration and B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), he is qualified to work as a professional and an authority in the field.
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) both have him as a registered member.

A young professional with a strong background, he works for Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited as a Senior Maintenance Engineer. He gained experience in the operations of the South South area, offering excellent services and expanding the company’s clientele.
To the dismay of his rivals, he has also been actively involved in local politics, fostering relationships with the populace and organizing them around shared causes.
At Omobayo’s inauguration today at the Dennis Osadebey Government House, the governor will preside.
Following the adoption of the report by a seven-member panel that looked into Shaibu’s alleged misbehavior, the State Assembly impeached him.
The panel headed by retired justice S. A. Omonuwa convened for the first time last Wednesday in the state capital of Benin.
