Philip Shaibu, the recently reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, has sent a strong warning to Governor Godwin Obaseki. He says he had put up with Obaseki’s actions for more than 15 months, but the governor’s recent behaviour has gone too far. Shaibu also promises to reveal any alleged wrongdoings if Obaseki’s proxies continue to disparage him.
Speaking to the press following Sunday Mass at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area, Shaibu, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the following declaration.

While stressing the need for accountability in governance and advising religious leaders to desist from bestowing unmerited divine titles, such as “God’s Servant Governor,” on politicians, the deputy governor asserted that the governor had misinterpreted his silence for weakness and threatened to expose multiple wrongdoings by the governor.
As part of his criticism of Obaseki’s leadership, accussed him of fighting the church, revoking Certificates of Occupancy from poor citizens, demolishing homes of opposition politicians.
In addition to urging the Christian community to be a light of hope for all citizens and to keep their faith pure from political ties, Shaibu also asked the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to stay out of politics and resist the continuation of injustice.
