On Saturday, the APC in Edo prevented journalists from covering its state congress.
Delegates from the state’s 21 local government districts attended the congress, which was held at the University of Benin’s Sports Complex.
Officials from the Department of State Security, who were stationed at the venue’s entrance, said they were following orders.
Only five print journalists and four broadcast journalists were accredited to cover the event, according to a party official in the state.
The official, who could not explain the selection criteria, stated that he was not a member of the congress’s Publicity Committee.
After the congress, a delegate from Etsako West Local Government Area, Mike Afaliokhai, informed NAN that new executive council members emerged by consensus.
The new executives, he claims, are all members of the party’s state Caretaker Committee.
“The new executive committee members emerged through consensus and affirmation.
“Francis Inegbeneki, who earlier obtained chairmanship form to challenge retired Col. David Imuse, later stepped down,’’ he said.
