81 Division soldiers and Department of State Services (DSS) agents are said to have detained individuals in Lagos State who are thought to be terrorists.
In several locations throughout the commercial city, the alleged terrorists wearing military camouflage were apprehended.
According to Vanguard, the alleged terrorists were sent by their backers to scout out potential attack spots in Lagos.
The General Officer, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Umar Musa, stated that many arrests were made in a press conference on Tuesday at the 81 Division headquarters in Kofo Abayomi, Victoria Island.
He said that the Nigeria Police Force had received them for further investigation and prosecution.
The Army commander revealed that the person who provided the impersonators’ army camouflage had also been detained.
He claimed that everyone must participate in the fight against insurgency, not just the Nigerian Army.
I don’t know how many impersonators we have detained, Maj. Gen. Musa stated. But there are still quite a few of them around.
“When we make arrests we hand them over to the Nigeria Police to do further investigation and prosecute them because we don’t have the power to prosecute.
“There has been progress to clamp down the sources of these uniforms and accoutrement. We had one suspect who had been in our place for quite some time. He also has been handed over to the DSS which will do further investigation and prosecute him. The Nigeria Customs Service is also doing a lot in this regard.”
