Aubrey Graham, better known by his stage name Drake, has sought for his two Grammy nominations for 2022 to be revoked.
The Recording Academy has already granted the request.
Drake was one of five rappers nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance for “Certified Lover Boy” and “Way 2 Sexy” (featuring Future and Young Thug).
His withdrawal implies that each of the affected categories will now have only four nominations, however his motivation remained unclear at the time of publishing.
The multi-time Grammy winner, on the other hand, has remained silent on the matter.
The artist has had several run-ins with the Academy.
Last year, the Recording Academy’s system was chastised after Drake’s compatriots, The Weekend, were rejected for any nominations despite producing some of the year’s most critically praised and popular material.
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exists now and the ones that come after,” Drake said on his Instagram page last year, expressing his displeasure with the award organizers.
“It’s like a relative you keep expecting to change their ways, but they just won’t.”
