The campaign director-general for Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Doyin Okupe, has quit.
In a letter to the LP presidential candidate on Tuesday, Okupe stated that he had decided to step aside rather than risk having his personal interests interfere with Obi’s and the party’s campaigns.
“Dear Peter, you will recall that I briefed you yesterday about my travails in seeking justice and clearing my name using the Nigerian Legal System to pursue same,” the letter read in part.
“I have invested too much in your campaign to allow my personal travails to become a source of distraction.

“In the circumstances, I have opted to step aside and plead that you appoint a new Campaign DG who can continue the assignment with zero distractions. God bless you and family.”
Following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that found Okupe guilty of accepting more than N200 million in payment from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, Okupe resigned from his position.
In her decision on Monday, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu found Okupe guilty of counts 34, 35, 36, and 59 because her behaviour, which is the first defendant in the lawsuit brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), breached the Money Laundering Act.
Okupe resorted to Twitter shortly after being found guilty on Monday to complain about his legal troubles and his “enemies.”
“God is not man. The enemies have tried in so many ways but kept on failing. Victory is of God,” he wrote.
