Despite Governor Nyesom Wike’s denial that he was aware of the lawsuit, the Federal High Court in Abuja set August 17 for the hearing of a case contesting Atiku Abubakar’s selection as the winner of the People’s Democratic Party presidential primary.
In a lawsuit with the filing number FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022, Wike is said to have sued the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, and Atiku over how the presidential primary in Abuja on May 28 and May 29, 2022, was handled.
Wike allegedly filed the lawsuit with PDP leader Newgent Ekamon, and listed the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, as the second respondent. Wike’s party was listed as the first respondent.
However, Wike said in a chat earlier today that he knew nothing about the alleged lawsuit and didn’t know the attorneys who filed it at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Wike went on to say that the litigation was the product of troublemakers who only wanted to exploit him for cheap political points.
He stated emphatically, “I don’t know anything about the so called suit. I did not ask anyone to file any suit for me “I don’t know the lawyers”. Continuing, he said, “am I a kid to be filing a suit at this time. I had 14 days after the primary within which to have filed any suit. I didn’t do that then, is it two months after primary I will file a suit?”
