The Federal Government on Wednesday, July 15, 2920 said it is unsafe yet to reopen schools for academic activities across the Country.
The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, said this while addressing the press at the end of eighth virtual Federal Executive Council meeting.
Nwajiuba said that Federal Government ordered the suspension of academic activities in schools to cushion the spread of COVID-19 in the Country.
The Minister added that WAEC is also negotiating with other West Africa Countries on possible means to shift the date of the exam.
He stressed that the Ministry had discovered that it would be of high risk to reopen schools amid the increasing number of corona virus cases in the Country.
“We are still meeting with them, in fact there is a stakeholder meeting slated for Monday next week.
“WAEC on its own part is also negotiating with other West African Countries to look at possible shift in dates and once they are through with that meeting and hopefully when we are also through with the consultations, if there is any change in the Ministries position we will communicate”.
