Seven suspects were remanded on Friday by a criminal court in Benin City due to their involvement in the most recent cult clash in the capital city.
Hon. Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, sitting in Criminal Court 1, Benin City, remanded in jail custody the seven suspects detained in connection with the revival of cult-related disturbances.
Esosa Eregeorowo, Frank Obaze, Ministrer Godwin, Jeremiah Timothy, Jimoh Lasisi, Osasu Idehen, and Idehen Marvis, the suspects, were charged with murder and membership in an illegal organization. They were also accused of conspiring to commit murder.
The accused were ordered to be held at the Oko Correctional Center in Benin City pending legal counsel from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution Edo State, the court ruled in response to an application motion filed by the prosecutor.
After nearly a year of peace, Edo State has reportedly seen new cult battles, InsightnaijaTV reports.
According to reports, a member of one sect defected to another, causing the cult wars to erupt once more. Bloodshed resulted as a result of this not sitting well with his old crew.
