A temporary injunction prohibiting the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr. Julius Abure, the National Secretary, Farouk Ibrahim, and two other individuals from holding themselves out as party leaders has been upheld by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Justice Muazu instead set April 20 for the intake of all applications in the case in response to a request for a prompt hearing from the attorneys of the party’s embattled national officers. After a different faction took control of the Labour Party national secretariat, Abure’s attorney, Alex Ejesieme, asked the court to revoke the interim injunction and restore some kind of sanity.

The senior attorney claimed that since the interim order, the division within the party has gotten worse to the point that four factions of the Labour Party in Imo State held parallel primaries. However, Justice Muazu intervened and ordered all parties to the lawsuit to ensure prompt filing of their legal documents in order to expedite the case’s hearing.
