Nigerian Police Force personnel have disrupted the Cross River State House of Assembly.
Security agency agents turned back assembly personnel on Tuesday, telling them not to loiter around the complex.
According to eyewitnesses, Nigerian police officers took control of the assemblage as early as 6 a.m.
The anti-kidnapping and cultism team, as well as normal police officers, are stationed at the state house of assembly.
This comes after Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja fired 18 members of the state House of Assembly and two members of the House of Representatives for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Meanwhile, the government of Cross River State has petitioned the Court of Appeal in Abuja to overturn the dismissal of 20 lawmakers for defecting from the PDP to the APC.
Christian Ita, Governor Ben Ayade’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, stated in a statement that the government is seeking a stay of execution against the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja.
He further added that a motion for a stay of execution had been filed with the Federal High Court, while urging members in the State House of Assembly and the National Assembly to carry out their responsibilities freely.
