Iyorchia Ayu, the former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been expelled from the party, according to the Benue State High Court.
Ayu’s tenure as the PDP National Chairman was unexpectedly ended in March after his Nyorov council ward exco dismissed him for failing to pay dues. They later accused him of anti-party activity and cast a vote of no confidence in him.

When reading their resolution at the time, Vanger Dooyum, the party secretary for the Igyorov ward, claimed that Ayu’s anti-party actions and those of his associates were a factor in the PDP’s defeat in his ward and the local government in the governorship race.
The PDP leader was also accused of not casting a ballot in the state assembly and gubernatorial elections that were held on March 18, 2023.
They claimed that the majority of Ayu’s closest associates worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), which had a negative impact on the PDP’s performance in the Igyorov Ward, where twelve out of the party’s exco members signed the documents authorising his suspension.
