During a car racing competition organized by some students from the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, a couple and two students were slain.
According to Source, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday inside the university campus at Ijalala Junction, as the couples were on their way home.
Mrs Shakirat, a non-teaching member of the university’s Faculty of Communication and Information Science (CIS), was named as the wife, and her husband was described as a shuttle bus operator at the university.
A Toyota Lexus Saloon, the bus, and another automobile driven by another student who is currently at large were all involved in the accident.
According to reports, the Toyota Lexus collided head-on with the bus, killing the couple, the Lexus’s driver, and another student on board.
The other vehicle they were racing in, as well as the students inside, are still on the loose.
A member of the National Youth Service Corps and another student on board the bus were alleged to have been injured.
According to a joint statement from the university’s Students Union Government (SUG) president and public relations officer, Toafiq Waliu Opeyemi and Olabode Stephen Opeyemi, respectively, the sad tragedy occurred as a result of excessive speeding.
The University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, stated in a statement that the news was received with grief by the management.
“We hereby enjoin all vehicle users to strictly abide by traffic rules and regulations, especially as they concern speed limits,” the statement added.
