The annual Harmattan season’s clearing and removal of water weeds popularly called “Water Hyacinths” on the Lagos waterways is underway.
This was made known by the General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, Mr Damilila Emmanuel in a statement issued in Lagos.
He said LASWA has began clearing the water weeds starting from Ikorodu, Badore and Badagry ends to be extended to the other zones across the state.
According to Mr Emmanuel, the exercise was in line with the Governor Sanwolu’s order, for the clearance of all neccessary impediments to smooth navigation of the state’s waterways.
The LASWA Boss has however adviced Boats and Ferries Captains, to always apply cautions on the waters especially during this hazy harmattan season while also soliciting maximum cooperation of all Stakeholders in Water Transportation business, to endeavour to maintain a cleaner, safer, prosperous and accident – free waterways.
Water Hyacinth are the floating aquatic freshy green plant of tropical lakes and rivers, which grows prolifically on the Lagos lagoon and spread along the watereways, hindering smooth navigation of Boats and Ferries.
