The attacks carried out by terrorists in the South East on non-indigenous people and law enforcement officials have once again received the utmost condemnation from President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by his media assistant, Malam Garba Shehu, the president pledged to take all feasible steps to conduct a swift investigation and bring the offenders to justice.
The president’s response followed reports of the murder of six Nigerien people and the savage assassination of many police officers while they were on duty.
To “speak more forcefully against the killings, stand up and defend the ethos of our cultural and religious heritage,” he pleaded with community and religious leaders.
He stated that reports of killings anywhere were sad and unwelcome and reaffirmed his administration’s unshakeable commitment to peace and stability in the Southeast and across the entire nation.
He expressed his sympathies to the families of the dead law enforcement officers as well as to the government and people of the Niger Republic, whose citizens had been brutally killed by the barbaric assailants.
