Usmanu Dan Fodio University in Sokoto political science professor Ibrahim Bande Zagga has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari over the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The speaker stated that all signs point to Buhari not being prepared to address the extensive agreements with university unions.
Prof. Zagga responded to the ongoing strike in Birnin Kebbi by asserting that because both parties were acting passively, ASUU was also involved in the scheme to damage public education as a whole.
“How much does ASUU require to end the strike? It is a very simple committee comprising the union and the federal government, which have met and reports submitted to the federal government. It is just for the government to implement it, period, “he said.
He bemoaned the fact that the strike, which has been going on for five months, has kept the students at home and their professors, who, in his opinion, do more than just educate in order to keep the colleges running.
In a related development, he claimed that arguments against running on a ticket of the same religion are unfounded and are instead an attempt by a small group of politicians to advance their own agendas. He claimed that late Abiola ran on the same ticket in 1993 and won, but he passed away soon after; more recently, a sizable Muslim population in Osun voted for the same candidate.
“So, it is not about religion but a patriotic leader who can bail out the country muslim- muslim or Christian it does not matter.”
