President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Tuesday for the 6th European Union-African Union Summit in Brussels, Belgium, where he will meet with European and other African leaders, as well as heads of multilateral organizations.
Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s media aide, confirmed the news in an Abuja statement on Tuesday.
According to Shehu, the Summit, which will take place from February 17 to 18, will allow participants to discuss current global issues.
He said: “Such areas of discussion include: Financing for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth; Climate Change and Energy Transition, Digital and Transport (Connectivity and Infrastructure); Peace, Security and Governance; and Private Sector Support and Economic Integration.’’
Education, Culture, and Vocational Training are among the others, as are Migration and Mobility, Agriculture and Sustainable Development, and Health Systems and Vaccine Production.
According to the presidential aide, the Nigerian leader will take advantage of the meeting to hold other bilateral meetings.
He said the president would be accompanied on the trip by Amb. Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, and Sharon Ikeazor, Minister of State for the Environment.
The entourage will also include the National Security Adviser, retired Maj.Gen. Babagana Monguno, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ahmed Rufai, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
On Saturday, the president is expected to return to the country.
