Lawmakers in the Imo State House of Assembly, on Friday impeached the Speaker of the house, Chiji Collins, over financial impropriety, high handedness, and gross misconduct.
Collins was removed from office by the lawmakers on Friday during a plenary at the legislative chamber of the Assembly complex in Owerri, the state capital.
There was also an issue of certain promises made by the governor to the lawmakers who he wooed to APC upon assuming office.
According to sources within the state assembly who pleaded anonymity, some of the lawmakers have already become uncomfortable with the governor’s disposition to his promises which have taken months with fulfilments
However, the lawmakers who yielded to pressure alleged that Collins was impeached over financial impropriety, high handedness, and gross misconduct, among others.
As soon as Collins was removed, Paul Emeziem from Onuimo local government area was elected new Speaker of the House
