The governor of Ebonyi State, Mr Dave Umahi, and his deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe, have been fired by a Federal High Court in Abuja for illegally defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The court ruled that their defection was illegal, unconstitutional, null and void, and ordered them to resign immediately.
In a ruling issued on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered Umahi and his deputy to resign as Governor and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, respectively.
The judge ruled that the votes that elected them belonged to the PDP and that they could not retain those votes after abandoning the party that nominated them.
In addition, Justice Ekwo ruled that the votes cast for the PDP in the March 9, 2019 governorship election are not transferable to the APC, which lost the election.
