Yesterday, Chief Olabode George, a former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, asked that Dr. Iyorchia Ayu resign as the party’s national chairman so that a southerner could take over.
Speaking with reporters yesterday, George emphasised that the current system is unjust to the South and that it is a misnomer for the national chairman and presidential candidate to come from the same zone.

He rejected the vote of confidence that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) passed last week on Ayu and the NWC.
Recall that on Wednesday, when Atiku met with PDP South-West leaders in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde reiterated his request for Ayu’s resignation.
Speaking yesterday, George warned that unless the South was given a sense of belonging, the party might lose the upcoming election.
In contrast to the time of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, when the party had a presidential candidate and national chairman from the North, he claimed that the situation today is different.
